Queer Art Icons with Rubyyy Jones!

Rubyy a la Opie by Suzanne Forbes Jan 24 2022 3I ‘d wanted to catch one of Rubbyyy Jones’ drawing sessions for forever!

I drew them once years ago at Full Moon Cabaret, and had such a good time doing it.

Rubyy a la Lempicka by Suzanne Forbes Jan 17 2022 4Since then they have created Life Drawing Rubyyy Jones, a whole Patreon community for life drawing, and more, including movement classes and act creation instruction. Insta, personal Instalinktree.

Rubyyy Jones a la Catherine Opie by Suzanne Forbes Jan 24 2022 whoreRubyyy’s January theme was sets and looks influenced by historic queer artists.

I made the Tamara de Lempicka/Lilac and Catherine Opie/Orange sessions! I was not familiar with Los Angeles photographer Catherine Opie‘s work, so I am very grateful to Rubyyy Jones and session facilitator Prinx Lydia for the introduction!

Sage Sovereign does Suspiria for Distanced Drawing!

Sage Sovereign for Distanced Drawing by Suzanne Forbes Feb 25 2021 knifeThrilled to draw NYC-based fire performer and producer Sage Sovereign again!

Sage modelled for woman-run NYC life drawing group Distanced Drawing several times recently. I couldn’t catch every session, sadly. But-

Omg so good. SO powerful, fearless, mystic.

And is so wonderful at creating a supernatural mood.

And then…the finale. Sage pulled out the casual household scythe. Doesn’t everybody have one?

I was exhausted at that point, it was 4am in Berlin which is my bedtime and I had done another show earlier in a different time zone so I had been drawing for ten hours. I had to give it a try anyway. I feel like I didn’t capture of a fraction of the majesty and terror Sage projected. Glad I tried, though! Previous drawings of Sage with Distanced Drawing are here.

I am so grateful to Sage for her fantastic work and to Distanced Drawing for making it viewable to me in the middle of the night in Berlin!

You can follow Sage on Instagram here and her website is here.
